Meet our CRMS Counselor's

CRMS

Mrs. Wilkes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1993, followed by a Master of Education degree in Counseling & Guidance from Valdosta State University in 1994. Now entering her 25th year as a school counselor, she continues to serve with compassion, purpose, and a heart for helping others. Mrs. Wilkes previously served as the school counselor at Cowan Road Middle School from 2006 to 2015. After eight years as a high school counselor in Fayette County, she returned home to Griffin-Spalding County Schools and rejoined the Cowan Road Middle School Team during the 2023–2024 school year.   Since her return, she’s had the joy of reconnecting with former students who now have children of their own, as well as working alongside former students who are now her colleagues and fellow teachers.

Mrs. Wilkes has counseling experience across all grade levels—elementary, middle, and high school settings. She has also worked in mental health centers supporting both children and adults. Besides school counseling she has served as a preschool teacher, elementary substitute teacher, and secondary special education paraprofessional.  Mrs. Wilkes views school counseling as her calling, a way to serve and uplift others including students, families, teachers & staff.  She is a team player and a calm presence in stressful situations.  Mrs. Wilkes believes in the power of a growth mindset, supporting students' emotional well-being, helping them navigate challenges, setting goals, and celebrating their successes.

In addition to supporting students' emotional well-being, Mrs. Wilkes works to support students academically & guide them as they begin exploring college, career, and workforce opportunities. She believes in empowering students to understand their strengths, set meaningful goals, and prepare for a successful future.

Faith in God is the foundation of Mrs. Wilkes’ life, guiding both her personal and professional journey. She and her husband are actively involved in their church, where they faithfully serve in the Preschool Ministry. They are proud parents of two wonderful daughters—their oldest is a recent college graduate, and their youngest is entering her second year of college. Mrs. Wilkes feels truly blessed in both her career & her family, and she is grateful to continue to support & serve the Cowan Road Middle School community.
